MLTSOL AND STSOL

People are more worried about 457 visa changes. However new occupation list (MLTSSL AND STSOL) effected GSM, ENS and RSMS.

Current Skilled Occupation List (SOL) has been replaced by the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).

Consolidate Skilled Occupation List has been replaced by the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).

MLTSSL (Previously - SOL)

Will be used for :

  • Skilled Independent Subclass 189 visas

  • Subclass 485 visas (Graduate Work Stream)

  • Skilled Regional Provisional Subclass 489 visas (Family Sponsored) 

MLTSSL Occupations are same as previous SOL.

Some of the other visa programmes can use this list.

For example, 457 or 489.

Previously all occupations in SOL were also available on CSOL.

  • Skilled Regional Provisional Subclass 489 visas (State Nominated)

  • Employer Nomination Scheme Subclass 186 visas (Direct Entry)

  • Temporary Worker (Skilled) Subclass 457 visas

  • Training Subclass 407 visas

 200 Occupations removed from CSOL to create STSOL

In addition, there are 24 "regional" occupations on the STSOL which are only open for:

  • Skilled Regional Provisional Subclass 489 visas (State Nominated)

  • Employer Nomination Scheme Subclass 186 visas

  • Temporary Worker (Skilled) Subclass 457 visas where the employment is in a regional area as specified for RSMS visas

  • 16 occupations which are restricted on the MLTSSL
  • Restrictions  on certain occupations - referred to as caveats.   Restrictions can be minimum salary, turnover, no of employees, type of activities or type of premises.
  • Changes will affect applications which are already lodged.
  • Visa granted for 2 years - if your occupation is on STSOL
  • Visa granted for 4 years - if your occupation is on MLTSSL

  • Impact on 190 and 489 visas
  • 16 occupations which are restricted on the MLTSSL
  • 200 occupations dropped from STSOL
  • 24 ruler occupation only available for SC 489.

ENS/RSMS

  • Changes affected only 186 Direct Entry Stream
  • No impact on 186 TRT stream (as it is)
  • 200 occupations dropped from STSOL
  • 16 occupations which are restricted on the MLTSSL
  • Changes affect 186 applications lodged on or after 19 April 2017    
  • NO Impact on RSMS but in future it will require min 3 years of experience, min age 44, changes to RSMS list will be introduced.
