Great News for Indians wanting to travel to Australia on Visitor Visa (SC 600)

Applications can be made online starting from July 1st, 2017

The DIBP (Department of Immigration and Border Patrol) has made a major change for Indians wanting to travel to Australia on SC 600 Visitor visa also known as Tourist Visa.

Starting from July 1st, 2017; Applicants from India will be able to lodge visa applications online for SC 600 which would drastically impact the processing and waiting times for the visa. Earlier, India was not in the list of countries from which citizens/passport-holders could apply online directly for Visitor Visa. Anyone wanting to apply for SC 600 had to make a Paper based application with all the documents and submit it to the nearest Australian Immigration office. As India has only 1 immigration office located in New Delhi, applicants residing elsewhere had to submit their paper based application via post or via a registered Courier Service called ‘’VFS Global’’ which added to the waiting period of the visa. After submission of the application, processing times for paper-based visa applications for SC 600 is approximately around 20 days.

However, all that is about to change after July 1st. With the introduction of online lodgments for SC 600, any applicant with an Indian passport will be able to directly file for their Visitor Visa online. This would reduce the hassle with paper-based applications but most importantly, it would significantly reduce the processing time period for the SC 600 visa to 1-2 days. As Indians are a part of the key demographics who choose Australia as a holiday destination, it was one of the major reasons why this decision was implemented.

The entire process of SC 600 Visitor visa online will not only be easily accessible by the applicants but also very convenient. Not only will they be able to lodge the file online, but they can also make the e-payment and also have the status check of their application by logging on with their details at any time.
